Digital shelf monitoring, explained.

Digital shelf monitoring is the continuous capture of how a brand's products appear on the retailers, marketplaces and distributors that sell them: whether the content is correct, where the product ranks in search, what it is priced at and by whom, whether it is in stock, and what customers say about it. It draws on the broader eCommerce product-data layer. Brand, category and e-commerce teams use it to protect margin, win search, fix content and grow sell-through where they do not control the storefront.

The difficulty is not the dashboard. It is capturing the shelf reliably from sites that resist automated access, matching your products to listings that retailers describe and rename at will, seeing the shelf by store rather than as a national average, and producing evidence a retailer or a seller cannot argue with.

Import.io handles those as infrastructure: capture on the hardest retail sites in production since 2012, layered AI matching with a confidence score on every pair, store and zip-level context, dated page snapshots on every finding, and daily QA against a contracted schema. The result is available in Aperture or as a fully managed web data feed. For the metrics themselves, see our guide to digital shelf analytics.

Questions brands ask.

Short answers. Longer ones on the call.

What is digital shelf analytics?

The measurement of how your products appear and perform on the retailers, marketplaces and distributors that sell them: content accuracy, search rank and share of shelf, price and MAP compliance, availability, ratings and reviews, and who is selling. Import.io captures the underlying data daily and matches it to your catalog.

How do you monitor MAP violations?

Every seller's shelf price is captured and compared to your MAP by SKU. A violation produces a finding with the seller identity, the price, the variance and a dated page snapshot, delivered as an alert or in your feed for your compliance process.

Can you identify unauthorized sellers?

Yes. New sellers on each marketplace are checked against your authorized seller list. Unknown sellers are flagged with their listings, prices, fulfilment method and evidence.

Do you cover distributors and B2B portals, not just retailers?

Yes. Distributor catalogs, trade portals and dealer sites are captured, including authenticated pages under governed sessions with your credentials. Industrial and automotive brand programs run this way today.

How is search rank measured?

By keyword and category on each retailer, distinguishing sponsored from organic placement, from the store or zip context you specify. Share of search is calculated for you and named competitors.

How is the data delivered?

In Aperture as scorecards, alerts and exports, or as a managed feed to S3, SFTP, API or webhook in CSV, JSON or Parquet, with a manifest and a QA pass on every delivery.

How quickly can we see our shelf?

Feasibility per retailer in days. A first shelf view across your retailer list is typically delivered within two to three weeks of scoping.
